While, here at Purse Blog we get a chance to meet so many fabulous designers, there are still some out there that I promise myself I will meet someday. Marc Jacobs has to be one of those designers. I absolutely love him, his style, what he stands for, how he rocks out and how he continues to amaze me.

The Marc Jacobs Rockabilly Leather Bag is yet another instance where I find myself loving and I mean absolutely loving Marc Jacobs. The impeccable MJ was able to to take a leather bag and add a laser-cut swirl pattern that doesn’t destroy the bag, it makes the bag. Since it is black leather, a simple single strap would be a great way to sport this edgy bag. Add a splash of silver-tone hardware, lattice detail at the side rings and to me, the best part, the bag is lined in fuchsia satin that sneaks through from time to time.

I have always had a thing for Miu Miu. Call it a crush or maybe something stronger. To this day I do not own a Miu Miu bag, but I always seem to find one that I like. As much as I want to like the Miu Miu Large Woven Leather Tote, I simply find it to be more of an odd pairing of imitations of other bags. The woven leather channels Bottega Veneta and the buckle at the top to adjust models a horrid Hermes knockoff. I am not attempting to say that Miu Miu is knocking off Bottega Veneta or Hermes, I am simply pointing out the similarities.

This bag just underwhelms me. It is lacking creativity and lacking a new touch. It is not that Bottega Veneta should be the only brand that weaves leather or that Hermes should be the only brand that places a buckle at the top of their bags, but they just do it better than this bag. I kept expecting more from Miu Miu, as time and time again it surpassed what I saw from Prada. But today, this tote is just meh.

We are totally crushing hard on Alexander McQueen. The new line of bags has our attention and has us desperately seeking an extra allowance to splurge on a range of his designs. The most talked about bags from McQueen this fall is his “Faithful” line. We have already seen the Alexander McQueen Faithful Glove Clutch, the Faithful Bucket Tote, and the Faithful Leather Tote. Each of these handbags continues to be reinvented with new colors and patterns that has using the eni meni mini mo technique to choose our favorite.

We already brought you the black and brown leather versions of the Faithful Glove Clutch and today we are bringing you the Alexander McQueen Faithful Glove Clutch with gunmetal pyramid studs. We know the stud trend is all over, but these studs are subdued, altering shape and size, while blending into the black leather magnificently. Totally digging the studs. While the time of “it” bags is surely over, there are still hit bags that continue to grab our attention each season. Last year we were all handbag-star-struck by the Chloe Paraty bag. First spotted on Katie Holmes, the bag could not stop generating buzz. Who is it by? When it is available? Is there a wait list? Everyone had to have this particular Chloe Bag.

I still love this bag and prefer it in python, like all of the hot stars continue to sport. The color of choice is black python (pictures of Rachel Zoe continue to surface with her sporting hers). When this handbag came out it caught our attention, it drew us in, and we all were loving it. Is this just a bag of last year or is it a bag that is here to stay? Marchesa has realized what most fashion watchers already know: handbags are one of the most profitable categories of products that a brand can make. They don’t take the sizing and fit of a dress, they’re seen as useful and more worthy of expenditure by consumers, and they can be sold in a larger variety of stores than a ball gown. They provide an introduction to the brand for new customers and increase awareness and familiarity among potential clients. Any high-end designer would be crazy not to make bags.

Georgina Chapman and the fine folks at Marchesa are decidedly non-crazy, so the bags are on their way and will debut for Spring 2010 at the forthcoming New York Fashion Week. Since their line is made up almost exclusively of ultra-detailed evening wear, it’s not surprising that they chose clutches and evening bags to make up their inaugural accessories collection. They show much of the detailing that has become Marchesa’s signature – intricate beading, rosettes, and a limited color palette. My favorite touch, though, is the jagged crystal wrapped in stone-encrusted metal that forms the closure on many of the bags. A little bit of a hard edge to set off an evening bag’s demure nature.

The designers insist that all of the bags were designed specifically to be large enough to fit a Blackberry, keys, and makeup for touch-ups. If that’s the case, then hallelujah, it’s a common concern that they’ve chosen to address. They will be made in silk, metal, and exotic leathers and will retail from $995-$5000. Since the collection has yet to be presented, store availability is unknown, but the designers say that they will be sold in the same types of stores that sell their dresses, both in the evening wear department and on the main floor with the rest of the accessories.
